I picked up The Werewolf’s Kiss in a used bookstore for something to
read while I was waiting for my husband. I usually don’t review older
books, because I hate hearing about a great story only to find out that it
is out-of-print and almost impossible to find. I was very pleased when I
checked Amazon.com to discover that this series is being reprinted. The
Werewolf’s Kiss is also available as an eBook for Palm Pilot.
The Werewolf’s Kiss is the first book in the Voodoo Moon Trilogy. The

Cheri Scotch takes us deep into the South, to New Orleans, and into a
world of Voodoo and the Loup-garou. Her writing about New Orleans and
Voodoo rings with familiarity and love. She has created a complex history
for the Loup-garou, werewolves, and deals well with the tragedies and joys
of their existence.
The cover promises a story in the tradition of Laurell K. Hamilton and
Anne Rice. The Werewolf’s Kiss doesn’t quite live up to the hype,
because the story is too fragmented. She tells the story of too many
characters, going back to the beginnings of the werewolves telling the
history of two of the oldest, while at the same time trying to deal with
the problems of the modern werewolves. The result is we don’t get caught
up in the problems of the main characters, which are interesting in
themselves. The Werewolf’s Kiss is about the struggle of a young woman
who discovers that she has the choice to become Loup-garou, a chance that
her father refused and has prayed that his children never face. She is
coveted by an evil Voodoo leader to enhance his power and another werewolf
who would make her his mate. What will she choose? And will she be given a
choice or forced to make the decision against her will?
As I mentioned, though I found the back story of all the different
werewolves very interesting and well written, I felt a little less
switching characters would have made it a stronger book. Still, it is well
worth reading.
